Holiday Party & Eva Knox Jewelry

Hey gals!! Well, 'tis the season for holiday gatherings, company parties and getting together with friends and loved ones. As **fun** as this sounds, it can sometimes be a source of stress for many of us...dealing with co-workers, crazy uncles, overeating..and most stressful--WHAT TO WEAR!! Ha!

Today, I am thrilled to team up with my friend Jenn of Eva Knox Jewelry to bring you a fun, simple, holiday look.

I LOVE this dress!!! It's so simple and can be dressed up or down and the price is right!! I like the 3/4 sleeves for the winter vs. a tank or sleeveless dress. Find the dress HERE.
Vest: Similar, Similar
Necklace: Eva Knox

For holiday parties--whether it be for work, church, a friend, whatever--i like to keep things simple, classic and fairly conservative. After all, you don't want to be THAT gal everyone talks about the day after! Here I paired a simple dress with my good old fur vest (are you tired of it YET??! I'm not!!). I feel like the vest is my "statement piece," so I finished the outfit with a very delicate piece of jewelry from Eva Knox....isn't it GORGEOUS??

I think it's the perfect piece to make this look simple, yet classic. A little about Eva Knox Jewelry:

Eva Knox is inspired by two of Jenn's style icons, Eva Perón and character Mallory Knox. Her collections are a juxtaposition of polished side and bohemian, yet also slightly edgy. Opposites attract these very different styles and lead to a cohesive collection of everyday minimalist layering jewelry meets boho luxe. (LOVE IT, JENN!!)

Jenn is a busy working mom and designs these everyday classic pieces, in limited quantity and also one-of-a-kind pieces. She works with an array of items, including vintage findings, custom pieces and semi-precious gemstones.

Each one of Jenn's pieces is handmade and never mass-produced. Most of the time, her pieces are one of a kind! How awesome would it be to gift a one of these unique pieces to your mom, daughter, aunt...and anyone with great taste??! Here are a few other FAVES from Eva Knox ~

I rarely wear large earrings because I'm always chasing kiddos around, so I love small, delicate, classy earrings and these completely fit the bill! I LOVE these earrings!

Monday Link Up ~ Leopard and Polka Dots!!!

It's been QUITE the week, my friends. Lots of sickness, lots of chicken soup, lots of soccer games and WAAAAY too many dirt cups and Snickers bars. So pardon my lack of energy and enthusiasm for this Monday!!!! This is how I FEEL ~

But this is how I'm going to face it!!

It's link up day and I get to link up with my blogging besties Carrie and Whitney...so how can it NOT be a good day?? I don't think I talk about these girls enough, but I am truly blessed to have met them through blogging. They are such AWESOME women!!

Ok, so today we are talking leopard and polka dots! Now I don't technically have a blog photo for leopard and polka dots (if you want to know why, read the beginning of this post-HA!), but it is one of my all time favorite combinations! Here is a quick selfie from last fall of how I wore leopard and polka dots ~

Sweater: Target (similar, similar)
Scarf: similar
Jeans: Old Navy (similar)
Booties: similar, cute option
Herringbone Vest: Splurge, The Look for Less

Here are a few other great ways to put leopard and polka dots together! I love and want to copy every one of these outfits!!!

Time to link up! Don't forget to use the hashtag #lovelylittlealamode on social media!

Impromtu Model vs. Me!!

You know when you wander into Target to get toothpaste and cereal and come out with $150 worth of stuff??? Well, I wandered into the mall the other day to make a return and saw SO.MUCH.CUTE.STUFF!!! I had to share it with you!!

Since I just went in to return something, I was in NO WAY prepared to do a Model vs. Me post or take pictures, so please excuse the odd shoes and the occasional pint-sized photo bomber :) I hit up Express and Old Navy and if this day is any indication of their Fall lines, my wallet is in big trouble!!

Here we go!

(Note: I am 5'4" and generally an XS/2 at Express and God-Knows-What at Old Navy--their sizing is awful!!)

EXPRESS

Maraled Ribbed Cascading Cover Up

Review: I had been dying to try this cardi on since I saw it on Gina and it didn't disappoint! It's soooo soft, drapes well and could be worn with anything from dress pants to shorts! Comes in 4 colors.

Sizing: I'm typically an XS at Express, but here I am wearing a Small. I am thinking the model sized up even more for a longer fit. Since I have short arms, I would stick with a small.

Verdict: LOVE! Highly recommended! Find the cardi HERE.

Dark, Mid-Rise Barely Boot Jean

Review: O.M.Geee! I have never tried Express jeans and now I am kicking myself not finding them earlier and taking advantage of the recent sales! These jeans--soooo soft, comparable to my Wit and Widsom skinnies that I adore...so flattering, perfect amount of stretch..AND!! The "barely boot" makes them a very "wearable" type of flare jean. They are more updated looking than straight leg but not super flared. In this picture I have them rolled under for length so they look more straight legged but the flare is very similar to the model's pic. BTW-my legs would TOTALLY look as long as the model's if I had remembered my heels....DARN IT!

Sizing: I had to size down in these to a 0 Short. The short length was perfect and dare I say I MIGHT be able to wear these with BOTH heels AND flats??! Time will tell....

Verdict: LOVE! Highly recommended! Find the jeans HERE.

Plaid Oversized Convertible Sleeve Shirt

Review: I couldn't find this lighter blue plaid online, but it's the same style of shirt as the model's. You can see the front view of the shirt in the pic above. ANOTHER WINNER! I wanted to show the length because it's long enough to wear with leggings!!! Score! It's lightweight (but not too light), drapes well and just feels great on!

Sizing: True to size. I am wearing an XS and it's obviously oversized like the name states :)

Verdict: LOVE! Highly recommended! Find the shirt HERE.

High Waist Elastic Stripe Full Skirt
on clearance!!!!

Review: First, I apologize for not bringing my crop top with me to try on this skirt! Ha! I have been wanting a striped little skater skirt like this forever!! This is a great one! It's pretty heavy and great quality. Also it has an elastic waist so it's very forgiving (maybe a Thanksgiving Day outfit??! LOL!). Also the "high waist" thing scared me, but I didn't think it was that high waisted at all.

Sizing: True to size. Unfortunately, they didn't have an XS in store. The Small was OK, but a little loose on the waist and I like my skirts slightly shorter :)

Verdict: LOVE! Highly recommended! Find the skirt HERE.

Pretty much everything I tried on at Express, I wanted to bring home!!! Moving on to...

OLD NAVY

Women's Classic Chambray Shirt

Review: In my last Model vs. Me post, I struck out at J.Crew Factory with the chambray shirt. If you're still looking, this is a great option! It's not quite as soft as the Loft Softened Shirts or the Target Merona Chambray, but I still really like it! Comes in a darker wash too.

Sizing: I sized up to a small for a more relaxed fit.

Verdict: If you are still looking for a chambray shirt, this one is a great option for the price! Find the shirt HERE.

Women's Classic Plaid Flannel Shirt

Review: Old Navy always seems to have great plaid shirts and this one is no exception! If you have never tried Old Navy "flannel" it's not really flannel, per se. It's light and 100% cotton. I happen to love this particular pattern and it's pretty much exactly as it's pictured on the model.

Sizing: I sized up to a small and may even go up to a medium because you know it will shrink up like all Old Navy clothes!

Verdict: Awesome shirt to update your plaid collection or try out plaid. There a tons of different colors and patterns. I'd wait for a good sale, though :) Find the shirt HERE.

Women's Quilted Vest

Review: If the J.Crew Factory quilted vest is too much of an investment for you, I HIGHLY recommended snatching this one ASAP before it sells out. The look is very similar. Obviously, the quality isn't the same (it's half the price!), but if you aren't concerned about this vest keeping you warm, it's a great layering piece!

Sizing: True to size. I'm wearing an XS.

Verdict: Definitely "the look for less." Find the vest HERE.

Women's The Pixie Chinos

Review: I was excited to try on these new Pixie Chinos! They are slightly thicker and heavier than the original Pixies and that just don't work for me. They fit me okay but in the end I was just "eh" about them. Nothing special. Plus, I liked them cropped like in the model pic and they were a little too long.

Sizing: They were true to size. I am wearing a 2. Again, they were a little long.

Verdict: I think they would definitely work for someone a little taller. They're pretty comfy and could be dressed up for the workplace (comes in several colors and patterns). Right now they are on sale for $18, so I'd say that's a steal! Find the Pixie Chinos HERE.

Whew! That was a pretty successful non-shopping trip!! I DID NOT buy everything I liked, by the way! I am a definite "wait for a great sale" type girl. But I have my eagle eye on pretty much everything!! Hope this helps you get excited for all the fall stuff popping up! I know it's still pretty hot everywhere but fall is my favorite season to dress for so I'm pumped :)

Have a great week, pretties!

5 Style Lessons We Can Learn From Reece Witherspoon

Hey pretty girls! It's Monday and Carrie, Whitney and I are hosting our regular Monday link up ~ A Lovely Little à La Mode Link Up, so link up with us below or check out some of the wonderful bloggers and be inspired! Also, use the hashtag #lovelylittlealamode on social media if you link up!

Do you have a celebrity that you feel embodies "your style?" I have several :) But one of my all-time faves is Reece Witherspoon. her casual, classic, seemingly effortless style is right up my alley! Let's take a look at some things we can learn from Ms Witherspoon-Toth (she's still married to to him, right?!)

Style Lesson #1 ~ Casual doesn't have to mean frumpy.

Reece is a busy, working mom and sure she has people to help her out, but I feel like her street style is very REAL. It's simple and casual, but she always looks put together. Shorts, a cute sweater and a necklace--adorable! Jeans and a striped top--can't go wrong! Easy outfits that can get you out of the door quickly, but look like you made an effort.

Reece Witherspoon Style

Style Lesson #2 ~ Wear color!

Reece is the queen of color! She does color SO WELL. And it's not crazy or outlandish-type color that she wears. Choosing ONE item for a color pop is great strategy. Below she does colored pants, bright sweaters and a neutral outfit with those to-die-for pink heels!

Reece Witherspoon Style

Style Lesson #3 ~ When in doubt, jeans.

So much of Reece's street style is jeans. She's a girl after my own heart because I am a total jeans gal. Jeans can be dressed up or down, they are super comfy and go with everything! Jeans for the win! She pairs her jeans with cute, patterned tops, awesome shoes and fun bags.

Reece Witherspoon Style

Style Lesson #4 ~ Sunglasses. All the time.

She's a Southern girl who (i'm assuming) also spends quite a bit of time in LA--so girlfriend knows how to rock her shades. There are very few picture of her withOUT sunglasses, actually! And this is where Reece and I connect again--i wear my sunglasses year-round, almost every time I am outside (unless it's raining, which is hasn't in forever here in Northern California). Sunglasses can hide a multitude of sins, lemme tell you! From tired eyes., wrinkles, fine lines, bags, tears! I literally cannot leave the house without my sunglasses either, Reece!

Reece Witherspoon Style

Style Lesson #5: Style doesn't have to be complicated.

Like I said before, Reece's style is very simple and effortless. She is a great example of how simple, classic pieces come together to look so put together and practical for a busy mom. Great fitting button downs, sweaters, jeans, a nice handbag and maybe a little delicate jewelry is all you need to recreate these looks below!

Reece Witherspoon Style
I just love Reece's style! Here are a couple of my (loose) recreations of her outfits ~

Reece Witherspoon Style

I love this super laid back outfit because of the comfort factor. It's almost feels like wearing sweats, but slightly more polished :). I love my chinos (read post HERE) and these Frankie Chinos from J Crew Factory might be the most comfy pants on on the planet. (Style Lessons 1, 4 & 5)

Olive Chinos: J Crew Factory (exact, in vintage surplus)
Gray Top: Kohls/Mudd (similar, in grey urban)
Converse: Nordstrom (exact)
Bag: Nordstrom (very similar)
Bar Necklace: Stella & Dot (exact)
Short Pendant Necklace: Stella & Dot (exact)

Although I don't have those amazing pink heels, I added my color/pattern pop with a red belt and leopard heels. Colored flats would also be cute and probably more practical for every day (Style Lessons 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5!)

Jeans: Target (exact)
Bag: Charming Charlie (similar)

What do you guys think of Reece's casual mom style?

Mom Style Files ~ Volume 4

Hey pretties! I haven't done a Mom Style Files post on awhile, so it's about time! . If you are new to this blog, I try to do a Mom Style Files once a month. The goal of my "wardrobe" posts are always to give approachable, wearable outfits/styling ideas for busy gals (moms in particular, but anyone else too!!) As I've mentioned before, I don't show any outfits the blog that I haven't worn (or would wear) "in real life."
