Mom Style Files ~ Volume 5

It's another volume of Mom Style Files! Wow-it's been awhile since I've done one of these but I really need to get back at it! I keep it real here on the blog, so I think just sharing quick snapshots of my real life everyday outfits is an easy way for you not only to get outfit ideas, but to see that you don't have to be decked to the 9's every time you go out. I am all about simple, practical and attainable! ...and oftentimes, that means imperfect :)

So here are some of my recent outfits, many of which were in line with the simple outfit "formulas" from the Winter Style Challenge ~

Outfit 1: Jeans + Long Sleeved Tee + Fur Vest + Boots
If you have read this blog for any length of time, you have heard me say, "I'm a jeans and a tee type of gal" probably a dozen times! How to you "winterize" jeans and a tee? Add boots and a faux fur vest! #boom!

Jeans: Express, my current fave to wear with boots (exact)
Tee: J Crew Factory (option)
Fur Vest: Thrifted from a kid's consignment store!!! (option, option)
Boots: Nordstrom (exact)

Outfit 2: Black Jeans + Black Bouse + Long Cardi + Printed Heels
I wore this outfit to work, because HELLO--i don't wear heels around the house! I am not in love with black on black but to be honest, I did like this outfit better in person than I did in the pictures.

Black Jeans: Express (exact)
Top: Express (exact)
Cardi: Express (exact)
Leopard Heels (similar, similar)

Outfit 3: Printed Sweater + "Flare" Jeans + Ankle Boots
Simple, easy, so comfy. I'm in love with polka dots!!

Jeans: Express (exact)
Sweater: Target (option, option)
Boots: Sears (exact, sooo comfy!)

Outfit 4: Sweater + Plaid + Jeans + Boots
There is something about plaid and pearls that I just adore! Makes the outfit just a teeny tiny bit more special :)

Jeans: Express, my current fave to wear with boots (exact)
Sweater: Loft (exact)
Plaid: Kohls (similar, similar)
Boots: Nordstrom (exact)

Outfit 5: Burgundy Cords + Black Blouse + Fur Vest + Printed Heels
This is my "work version" of Outfit 1 since I can't wear jeans to work. If you don't have a pair of burgundy jeans/cords, I highly recommended finding a great pair! They are so versatile!

Burgundy Cords: Loft (similar)
Top: Express (exact)
Fur Vest: Thrifted from a kid's consignment store!!! (option, option)
Leopard Heels (similar, similar)
Necklace: Stella & Dot (exact)

Outfit 6: Jeans + Plaid + Cardi + Boots
I showed this outfit last week, but I have been wearing it so much, I am showing it again! This combo can be repeated so many different ways but just swapping out the plaid and the cardi.

Sweater: Express (exact)
Plaid: Express (exact)
Jeans: Express (exact)
Boots: Nordstrom (similar)

Celebrity Style ~ Joanna Gaines + LINK UP

Do you guys watch the show Fixer Upper on HGTV?? I might be a little bit #obsessed with it--enough to **maybe ** make me fly to Waco and stalk Chip and Jo Jo until they redo my house!!! HA! Joanna's decorating style is always spot-on and I would give her free reign in my house any day!

Not only does her interior design style match mine, so does her personal style! I am always so drawn to her simple, casual, slightly "rustic" outfits...can you describe an outfit as "rustic?" Hmmm. Anyhoo, check out some of my faves from Joanna ~

Reece Witherspoon is another one of my celeb style icons (read the post HERE)--I am drawn to the casual, no fuss, yet put-together "mom" looks of both Reece and Joanna. I have recreated several of Joanna's outfits at one time or another this fall, but here is the one I am recreating today :

Black Jeans/Leggings, Chambray Top + Military Jacket + Cognac Boots

Here is my recreation ~

This outfit formula is super simple to recreate and you probably have most of these items already!!

Black Jean/Leggings: Express (exact, similar)
Chambray Tunic: Target (exact, similar)
Jacket: J. Crew Factory (similar, similar)
Boots: Nordstrom/Corso Como (similar, similar)
Bag: Nordstrom/BP (similar, similar)

What do you think of Joanna's style???

Each week we choose a favorite...check out Carrie and Whitney's blogs to see if it's you! My favorite look this week was Lanae of modest budget belle! She rounded up how to glam up a sweatshirt! She pretty much had me at "sweatshirt." So much inspiration, Lanae!!! I love this one:

This is TOTALLY my idea of the perfect holiday party outfit! HELLLLOOOOO it's a SWEATSHIRT! Read her entire post HERE.

Create28 Fall ~ Tunics & Leggings

Happy Saturday, pretty girls! I'm excited today because I am co-hosting with the gorgeous Megan from The Fashionista Mama. I love Megan's style and her family is just adorable! Go check her out and link up with us below!

Today it's all about Fall Tunics. I came to know, love and APPRECIATE the tunics and leggings look last fall. I had been skeptical of leggings because they reminded me too much of yoga pants! But once I found the right pair(s) of leggings, there was no going back! From then on, it was all about my quest to find the perfect tunics..you know..ones that cover all of your lady parts...FRONT AND BACK!!!

Here are my 3 favorite ways to wear tunics in the fall ~

Look #1 ~ Casual
Pretty much as comfy and casual as it gets for fall short of sweats and a big sweater! A chambray tunic and fringe scarf are great casual pieces, but still look polished.

Leggings: Hue/Nordstrom (exact, great option)
Chambray: Target (exact, option)
Scarf: via Jane.com (almost identical)
Boots: Frye (exact, similar)

Look #2: Classic
I got this Lush tunic at the Nordstrom anniversary sale and have already worn it a handful of times. It's a great transition piece and can be worn with shorts, jeans, pants....or leggings! It's super long (especially on my 5'4" frame), so it more than covers the LPs (Lady Parts). I love cropped leggings with flats while I am waiting for the weather to cool down!

Leggings: Nordstrom Brand  (exact, similar)
Tunic: Nordstrom (exact)
Necklace: Stella & Dot (exact)
Leopard Flats (similar, similar)

Look #3: Cozy
This outfit is perfect when the temps start to drop (for good!) and you start to crave coziness and layers! I picked up this sweater tunic from Nordie's last year and wore it so much last fall and winter. I found this "blanket scarf" at Sears (of ALL places! i think i went in to get a water filter for my 'fridge and came out with a scarf!) and i like it because it's a lot less bulky than the traditional giant blanket scarves. It's still big and gives the same look, but without all the fuss.

I call my boot cuffs "California Boot Cuffs" because I don't care for super thick socks or cuffs. So I just took and thin pair of socks and cut off the toe...voila! Boot cuffs!

Leggings: Hue/Nordstrom (exact, great option)
Tunic: Nordstrom/Caslon (similar, cute option, cute option)
Scarf: Sears (similar, similar)
Boots: Frye (exact, similar)
Boot Cuffs: DIY'ed :)

I will leave you with more super cute tunics that should pass the "Covering Your Lady Parts" test :)

Repeat after me: Jeans, boots, plaid, scarf. It's doesn't get much simpler than that for Fall Fashion does it??! This is my absolute favorite go-to fall outfit. I mix and match my plaid and my scarves, and always wear my favorite jeans and tall boots. I could wear this outfit every single day! If it's ain't broke...

I picked up this plaid shirt from Express over Labor Day and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It's SO soft, lightweight and relaxed. The added bonus is that it's long enough to wear with leggings with full back and frontal coverage! #winning

Jeans: Wit and Wisdom/Nordstrom (exact)
Plaid: Express (exact, cute option, cute option)
Scarf: similar, option
Boots: Frye/Nordstrom (exact, similar)

I have not felt this good in YEARS and I am so happy my friend Deena turned me on to this!!! Read my full review HERE. The reason this is a Fall Fave is because I am looking ahead to Thanksgiving dinner and the holidays and this will definitely give me a jump start on staying healthy over the holidays! :)

These boots!!!

After wanting these boots for 4 stinkin' YEARS, I finally pulled the trigger and now that it's almost Fall I am getting so excited to wear them!!!

My favorite scents are: Baked Apple Pie, Cinnamon Vanilla, Honey Pear and Sugar Cookie. My  cousin is a consultant so feel free to check out her website HERE! You'll be addicted!

My crockpot, slow cooker whatever you want to call it! I use it during the summer, but it really gets a workout in the Fall/Winter months!! I can't wait to break it out and start cooking up some yummy soups, stews and other deliciousness! Here are two of my favorite crock pot recipes ~

Fall makeup! I always like to change up my skincare and makeup routine a little come Fall. I go for slightly darker nail polish, blush and eye shadow colors. Here are a few of my favorite fall makeup items:
