Seven on Sunday ~ Week 29 ~ Midwest Fun!

We spent the last week or so in the Midwest during our (almost) annual trip to visit Scott's family. The weather was nearly perfect and we all had so much fun...especially the kids! Now that they are getting older and can do more things, I know they'll remember these trips forever. Now that they're older, it also makes traveling SO MUCH easier! No diaper changing on the plane--woo hoo!!

I took a zillion pictures, but here are the highlights :)

At the airport bright and early--they are so ready!

We took the El (subway) from the airport to my sister in law's apartment in downtown Chicago....suburban kids on public transportation ("it smells like pee in here")

Buddy discovered the world of 1980's video games and stayed up until all hours of the night playing Mike Tyson Punch Out!

The next day we headed to Scott's dad's house on the lake and the cousins were reunited once again!

Cousins, chips, pop, a boat ride..life is better at the lake! :)

These four could have played on this tube in the lake all day long (actually, I think they did!)

4th of July crazies!!! This is America's Finest right here!!

4th of July family picture (chaos as usual)

The next day we went to the Fort Wayne Tin Caps minor league baseball game. It was special because Will's first Little League team (in California) was the Tin Caps! He wore is jersey to the game and loved it!! He was the only one who wanted to stay because it was BLAZING HOT!

Here's all 3 generations of boys!

He was gung ho!
Another fun highlight--Scott wanted to take the kids to the house where he grew up and make them walk to his school to show they what life was like back in the day!! LOL!! (two miles, in the snow, uphill both ways, etc). Scott's dad also joined them and they had a great time!

Then we walked to the gas station behind his old house for candy and slurpees...Midwest fun, I tell you!!!

We went to a Diners, Drive Ins and Dive stop for lunch one day not too far from where we were staying. I'd never really had a Philly Cheesesteak before, but the one I had was super yummy!!!

All the cousins got to spend quality time with Scott's mom, grandma and grandpa

Try to get six cousins ages 1 to 9 to take a decent "Cousins Pic"...#nothappening. This was as close as we could get!

Toward the end of the trip, the kids got brave enough to try some water sports--they had a BLAST!! Pops took them for their first ride on their jet ski!

Scott took Buddy...

And Sarah!!

And Brookey went tubing with the dog!!

Our trip was jam-packed and over really quickly! On the way back to Chicago we stopped at Notre Dame for some tourist pics by Touchdown Jesus. There happened to be a stadium tour going on, so we did that, too! We got to go inside the locker room, touch the "sign" and run on the field!!

In the locker room...

On the field....

We made the most of our last few hours on Chicago by visiting Wrigley Field...

..and being tourists on Michigan Avenue...

Kids in a candy store....

Tourist pic!

It was an awesome trip! Good times with family, cousins, no airline delays to speak of, no (major) meltdowns, no illness, no awful weather...just lots of family fun!!! See ya next year, Midwest!!
