Pinned It, Did It + LINK UP

It's time for the monthly Pinned It, Did It! You know, the post that FORCES me to go back through my 4,000 "Fall/Winter" Pins and start recreating them! You can check out my Fall/Winter Pinterest board HERE.

It's been COLD here, people! California cold!!! We are talking like 40's in the morning! It's funny I used to live in Chicago and literally used to PRAY for 40 degree days!! Now, if it's under 60 my BONES are literally frozen. #suchawimp At any rate, this weather has just made me want leggings, leggings and more leggings--cozy and comfy! So this is the outfit I chose to recreate:

Super simple, right? Here's my version:

Tunic: Eddie Bauer (see options below)
Leggings: Nordstrom/Hue (exact)
Scarf: Gift (similar, similar)
Boots: Similar
Purse: Charming Charlie (similar, similar)

If you don't have a plaid tunic, I HIGHLY recco one for the days you just want to throw on some leggings and be super comfy--it's almost like wearing PJs! But paired with boots, you are perfectly presentable in public--all lady parts COVERED :) I picked this tunic up last fall at Eddie Bauer, but here are some great options ~ (click images for more info)

Another one of my absolute fave tunic/shirts is this plaid shirt from Express:

It's sooo  soft and just the perfect amount of "oversized" to not look sloppy. Depending on how tall you are, you may be able to wear it with leggings since it's pretty long! There are lots of different color options, too! Click HERE for the shirt.

****Before we get to the link up, I just wanted to let you know that I will be taking a little bloggy break now until the New Year. I will still have the link up live next Monday, though so definitely stop by and link up! Thank you guys so much for being a supporter of my blog this year. I feel so blessed to have "met" so  many of you through the blogging world! Wishing you a very blessed holiday season. XOXOXOXO

Pinned It & Did It + LINK UP!!

Happy Monday, friends!!! First things first, if you are seeing a big "Look Who's Popular" message on the blog, I apologize. It's technical difficulties with Photo Bucket  and I am trying to get it cleared up ASAP!  Sorry for the inconvenience!

You guys know Pinned It & Did It is one of my favorite days on the blog!! On thing I have learned in all of my years of Pinning and Doing is that you don't have to follow Pins EXACTLY. Work with what you have in your closet, girls! Case in point ~

Pink Boots: Target (exact, in fushia)
Striped Top: similar
Herringbone Vest: Splurge, The Look for Less
Leopard Scarf: similar, CUTE option!!!
Jeans: Wit & Wisdom (exact)

I love the subtle pattern mixing with stripes and leopard! I didn't have the blue vest, but so I subbed my favorite herringbone vest. The pink rain boots stayed the same, though :) Man, I love them!!! Bring on El Nino!!! I also got them in black :)

Here is another one of my pattern mixing favorites ~

Plaid: option, option
Striped Top: similar, similar
Jeans: Old Navy (similar)
Booties: similar, cute option

I have really been trying to work my closet this Fall season because I feel like I am at the point where I have lots of clothes I LIKE--i just need to continue to find ways to put them together! Pinterest is great for that. I will find an item of clothing that I have (i.e. Red Plaid Shirt), plug it into Pinterest and hopefully have at least 3 or 4 great outfits I can pull from my closet! It's a great way to stretch what you have an find new ideas :)

Do you Pinterest for outfit inspiration? If so, do you Pin a zillion things and forget about them like I do??! HA!

Create28 Fall ~ Favorite Fall Dresses

Apparently, I have a "thing" for black and white fall dresses! In the past, I haven't been a huge black and white fan....i just thought it was so BORING and plain. It also reminded me of the days when I couldn't really dress myself and my closet was filled with black and white and NO COLOR! (sad days!!!)

However, in recent months, I've come to really embrace black and white again! However, unlike before, I hardly ever just wear plain black and white...I always try to add some "spice."

Striped Dress:cute option, cute option
Cargo Vest: option
Leopard Scarf: similar
Boots:  similar

In the above outfit, I added a little pattern mixing with stripes and leopard...one of my FAVES! I also added two other neutral, but contrasting colors (green vest and brown boots).

Plaid Dress: Target (exact)
Boots: Corso Como/Nordstrom (similar)
Scarf: Nordstrom/BP: (option,option)

In this outfit (read original post HERE), I added just a little pop of color to spice up the black and white. Also, some people think black/white and brown is not a legit color combo but I LOVE these three colors together!! The cognac provides a great contrast to the black and white without "clashing."

So to recap, here are my tips for wearing black and white ~

* Pattern mix (leopard and even plaid are great to pair with black and white)
* Add other neutral colors such as olive green or cognac
* Add a pop of color (choose colors depending in the season such as marsala for fall or yellow for summer)

Hope you will join us for Create28 this month! Link up with us Mondays or use the #Create28FallLooks on social media! Carrie is up tomorrow with more fun with patterns and prints!

Create28 Fall ~ Summer to Fall Transition + Blog Hop!!

SUPER excited today because not only is it Link Up day, I am participating in a Blog Hop with my fellow bloggers at The Blended Blog! The Blended Blog (TBB) is a new blog collaboration with a group of ladies that I met through several style challenges. We have been taking turns sharing ways to transition summer pieces into Fall. This is also my Create28 "Trying a Trend" post! :)

If you are hopping over from Lana's blog, WELCOME!! If you haven't checked out the two other blogs in the "hop," check them out!! We have my friends Deena who is featuring vests, and Lana who is all about transitioning tanks and tees.

Today I am transitioning a plaid dress. Typically plaid is considered a "fall" item but this dress can be worn across the the seasons!! Check it out!

Look 1 ~ Early Fall. Where I live, September and lots of October are still pretty warm, so bare legs and sandals are the norm! The fact that this dress is 3/4 sleeved helps with the heat factor....and of course, the sunglasses :) In the second picture I wore ankle boots (and no sunglasses!) to make it slightly more fall-like, while still keeping cool!

Look 2: Later Fall ~ In this look, I cozied up a bit with a scarf and tall boots. This can be easily made an even cooler weather outfit with tights or leggings. Burgundy or some fun mustard tights would be my choice!

Plaid Dress: Target (exact, see other options below!)
Sandals:Target/Sold Out (option)
Ankle Boots: (similar, similar)
Boots: Corso Como/Nordstrom (similar)
Scarf: Nordstrom/BP: (option,option)

Here are some other cute plaid dresses I've seen ~ click on any image for more info :)
If you are mad for plaid like I am and you don't own a plaid dress, I highly suggest finding one you love! It might be a bit of a search, but I think you will get a lot of wear out of it in the fall months!

Create28 Fall ~ White After Labor Day

No white after Labor Day -- To gals that are into fashion, we know that rule is old news! But some people still take this rule to heart. No one is QUITE sure where this rule came from...I have heard varying stories. The most popular being that upper class Americans in the early 1900's used to take summer vacations away from the urban "concrete jungle" and visit cooler places--therefore wearing "cooler" type colors, including white. When they returned to the City after Labor Day, they would wear their "city clothes" (darker colors), to mark the end of the summer.

I have no idea if there is any truth to this, all I know is I love white before AND after Labor Day!!!  I have two ways I like to wear it in the fall~

1) Paired with "fallish" items such as plaids, vests, boots, etc.

2) Paired with neutrals or "winter whites."

Here are my two looks ~

Look #1 ~ Paired with plaid and a cargo vest

White Jeans: Loft (similar)
Plaid Shirt: Kohl's (similar, similar)
Cargo Vest: TJ Maxx (option)
Ankle Boots: similar, similar
Necklace: Stella & Dot (exact)

Look #2 ~ The neutrals look

White Jeans: Loft (similar)
Sweater: Nordstrom Rack (similar, similar)
Leopard Scarf: H&M (similar, similar)
Boots: Corso Como/Nordstrom (similar)

Do you **DARE** wear white after Labor Day???

Create28 Fall Looks ~ Whitney's Plaid Look

Happy Friday!! Whitney's up today with her super fun PLAID look!!!

Did you know that today is Plaidurday?  Are you wearing your plaid?

I received this cozy buffalo plaid jacket in one of my Le Tote deliveries in early September.  For weeks it was too warm to even think about wearing a jacket, but I kept my Le Tote anyways because I just had to wear the jacket before I returned my goods and received another special delivery.

While I awaited the cool, crisp morning that meant I could break-out this jacket, I thought through so many outfit options.  I ultimately decided that pairing buffalo plaid with stripes is a perfect combination of classic yet creative.

What is your favorite way to wear plaid?  With stripes and booties like me?  As a scarf?  Perhaps a plaid shirtdress?  Maybe you've checked-out Adam Lippes for Target?  In any case, show us what you've got on Insta (#Create28FallLooks) and make sure to link-up on Monday.  Here are some more plaid looks that I'm loving for fall!

Follow Whitney à la mode's board Plaid on Pinterest.

I hope you'll come back tomorrow to see how Casey styles a fall tunic!

Create28 Fall ~ Favorite Go-To Fall Look

Can we believe it's OCTOBER??! October, people! Fall, leaves, Halloween, Christmas!! Yes, I did happen to see CHRISTMAS decorations at Costco on September 26th, FYI. #stoptheinsanity But October also means Create28 Fall Looks!! Woo hoo!! Link up your looks every Monday or use the hashtag #Create28FallLooks on social media! We can't wait to see your fall outfits!!

Today let's talk about our go-to Fall outfit. For me it's ~ Jean, boots, plaid, scarf. Repeat.

Repeat after me: Jeans, boots, plaid, scarf. It's doesn't get much simpler than that for Fall Fashion does it??! This is my absolute favorite go-to fall outfit. I mix and match my plaid and my scarves, and always wear my favorite jeans and tall boots. I could wear this outfit every single day! If it's ain't broke...

I picked up this plaid shirt from Express over Labor Day and it is quickly becoming one of my favorites. It's SO soft, lightweight and relaxed. The added bonus is that it's long enough to wear with leggings with full back and frontal coverage! #winning

Jeans: Wit and Wisdom/Nordstrom (exact)
Plaid: Express (exact, cute option, cute option)
Scarf: similar, option
Boots: Frye/Nordstrom (exact, similar)

Fall Transition + LINK UP

Happy Monday, pretties!!! As usual, Carrie, Whitney and I are hosting A Lovely Little à La Mode Link Up today, so if you're a blogger, please join us! The girls and I have been hosting a little mini series this month and this is the last installment! Thursday we will be starting Create28 Fall Looks so you'll have fall outfit inspiration every day in October!

Monday 9/7 ~ Summer Dresses (see post HERE)
Monday 9/14 ~ A Classic Piece (HERE)
Monday 9/21 ~ An Essential Bag (HERE)
Monday 9/29 ~ Fall Transition (TODAY!)

Fall is around the corner, Pumpkin Spice is in the air and I may or may not have busted out my boots in 68 degree weather the other day! I know here in Northern California we'll get more days of shorts and tanks, but fall will definitely be upon us before we know it!

Today I have two simple "Fall Transition" outfits for you. In true "Casey" style, they are super casual and easy to wear!

1.  Shorts + Plaid ~ If you know me, you KNOW I love me some denim shorts!!! You also know I love my Converse! So how do I make this "fallish??" ADD PLAID! Done! I love this plaid shirt not only because it's the perfect weight, but look at the sleeve cuffs...buffalo plaid!!! Sold!

Plaid Shirt: Target (exact, option)
Denim Shorts: J Crew Factory (exact)
White Tee: J Crew Factory (exact)
Converse: exact
Necklace: Stella and Dot (exact, in gold)

2. Jeans + Tank + Fall Scarf ~ Another transition fave of mine is a tank and scarf. You're looking at my new favorite jeans for fall that I showed you in my Express Model vs. Me post HERE! Sooo darn comfy, perfect stretch and I would say perfect for anyone who thinks "flares" are too much! These "Barely Boot" cuts give the same look, but without a lot of flare to deal with. Another great thing is that I can wear these babies with flats and not look 4 feet tall!!

Jeans: Express (exact)
Tank: Loft Outlet (similar, similar)
Scarf: Jane.com (option, option, option)

I have a very easy Fall Transition formula: Mix a summer/warm weather item with a fall/cool weather item. In Outfit 1, I mixed plaid (fall item) with shorts (summer item). In Outfit 2, I mixed a tank (summer item) with a scarf and jeans (fall items). Check out some of these other ways to mix and match ~

* Shorts + Sweater

* Summer Dress + Scarf

* Summer Dress + Cardigan

* Cropped Leggings + Jacket

* White Jeans + Sweater

 * Maxi Dress  + Sweater

I absolutely love all of these looks and will be copying them ALL until "real fall" hits Northern California come the end of October!!

Do you have a go to Fall Transition outfit?

This girl can do the "work wear/professional" look better than anyone! She always looks so darn put together! And I just love the cobalt and black combo...mixed with leopard heels??! Yes, please!
